staying at home by myself

Conversation from this morning:

Mom:  C’mon Duke, let’s go brush your teeth before we go to school.

Me:  I am going to stay at home by myself today with Prescott.

Mom:  No, you’re not.

Me:  But Prescott gets to stay at home by himself.

Mom:  Prescott is 13.  When you are 13, you can stay at home by yourself, too.

Me:  But Mom!!!!

Mom:  Besides, if you needed something to drink or eat, who would get it for you?

Me:  Prescott

Mom:  Prescott can’t open the refrigerator.

Me:  Yeah, Prescott doesn’t have hands.  But Daddy can help me.

Mom:  Daddy is at work.

Me:  No, he’s not, he’s standing right here (looking over to the left)

Mom:  Really, I can’t see him.

Me:  Yes, he’s right there.  Dad, can you get me some milk to drink?  (pretends to drink) Um, that’s good.  Dad, can you fix me some lunch?  (pretends to eat).  Yummy!  Peanut butter and jelly is my favorite.  See, now I can stay at home by myself.

So, Mom didn’t go for it.  But it took her awhile to tell me that as she was laughing so hard.  I guess I will probably try again tomorrow.

However, here’s what happens when I am left alone for just a few minutes.  Can you imagine what would happen if they left me for an entire day?

swimming lessons

Tonight was my first night at swimming lessons.  Sorry, mom doesn’t have any pictures yet, but I’m sure there will be some soon.  Good thing she didn’t have her camera on her tonight.  Soon you will understand why.  I have been super excited about going to swimming lessons.  And when we got to the pool today, I was wired!!  The other parents thought I was a riot.  Mr. Personality, one of them called me.  Mom said I was being a bit of a show off.  I was just being me.  So, the teacher came and gathered us up and we headed to the pool.  She put on this really cool belt that was to help keep me afloat.  We got in the water and blew bubbles, kicked our feet, and attempted to float on our backs.  I wasn’t too cool with the floating thing.  I really didn’t have any desire to lay my head in the water.  Maybe I will get over that soon.  Also, when it came to the kicking, my body would not go straight.  I kicked totally crooked.  Not sure what that was about.  So, anyway, on to the good part.  We were supposed to be sitting on the step while the teacher helped us one by one float on our backs.  Of course, I am not real good at the whole sitting still thing.  So, I decided that I would try this swim thing on my own and put my face in the water.  Great idea, until my feet came out from under me and I couldn’t get them back under me and couldn’t get my face out of the water and the teacher was working with one of the other kids.  No worries, everyone…Mom came flying in the pool, work clothes and all.  She scooped me up and out of the pool before I even knew what was going on.  Thank goodness Dad was there to talk some sense into her.  She was ready to take me home, but Dad insisted that I finish my lesson.  And I wanted to go back in, so it was cool.  On the way home, I told Mom I was just trying to swim with my face in the water.  I guess it will take some time to figure that out.  But I think Mom might wear her swimsuit for the next class.

Just Like My Daddy

My dad is so cool!  I mean he is the coolest guy in the world.  That’s why I want to be just like him.  And you know what that means?…No shirt.  Yep!  That’s right!   I do not wear a shirt unless Mom threatens me within an inch of my life.  It’s usually the first thing I take off when I get home and it’s the last thing I put on before I walk out the door.  I don’t even wear a jammie shirt to bed anymore.  Because I am cool…just like my dad.

Fun Times in the Big City

We got to go to Atlanta Mother’s Day weekend and we had so much fun! On Saturday we got up bright and early and went to breakfast with Uncle Tyler at this cool place called J. Christophers. Then it was off to the Georgia Aquarium. Anyone who was around me the week prior to our trip knows that I was most excited about seeing the whale shark. When Mom picked me up from school on Friday, we went back to the house to get the bags. She tried to unbuckle me from my car seat, but I told her ,”No, Mommy! You go inside and get the DVD player and I will stay in the car so we can go see the whale shark.” The 6 hour drive to Atlanta was fun with me asking everytime we stopped if we were to the place to see the whale sharks. But we finally got to the aquarium…

You can see more pictures over at Mom’s blog.  But needless to say, I had a great time.

The Sunday we were there was Mother’s Day.  I took Didi’s Mother’s Day presents over to her that morning.  I found a pen and pad of paper, so I started taking breakfast orders.  Here’s how the conversation went:

Didi:  What do you have to eat?

Me:  Pie

Didi:  What kind of pie?

Me:  We have oatmeal pie, strawberry pie, chocolate pie, and grumpy pie.

Didi:  Grumpy pie?  What is that?

Me:  Oh, it’s eyeballs with ice cream on top.  It’s really good!

Don’t know where I came up with that one, but it sounded good at the time.

Karate Kid

I got to go to a birthday party today. And it wasn’t just any birthday party. It was my good buddy, Talen’s, birthday party and it was at the Martial Arts Center. I was so ready to show everyone my kung fo moves. We had such a good time. They even let us keep the cool outfits. I can tell I will be sportin’ that a few more times around the house. Here’s a couple of highlights from the afternoon.

Here’s me getting suited up for the event.

And here I am getting a little instruction from the teachers.

I think the teacher was a little surprised by my strength in the next one…
And a bow to finish things off.

And we can’t forget about the birthday boy. Here’s Talen after he broke a board in two. I think he had a hard time believing it himself.

Birthday Present

So, I forgot to show you what I got for my birthday from Mom and Dad. It is the coolest ride on the block

Dad loaded up the back with water balloons the other day and I had a really good time throwing those around the yard. I would drive a little bit, throw a balloon, drive a little bit more, throw a balloon. I even tried to include Mom in on the fun, but I don’t know how keen she was on that. (yes, that pink blop flying through the air is a water balloon)So, I am pretty excited about having such a cool tractor to ride around on. Come on over and I will take you for a spin sometime.

Happy Birthday to Me!!!!

Yep! You read that right. Today is my birthday and I am so excited. I got to take cupcakes to school (although Mom made healthy ones, I’m sure all the 3 year olds will just love that). And I am getting a dinosaur cake tonight. Mom and Dad already gave me my present and Mom will post pictures of that later. And if you want to see all the warm and cuddling things Mom wrote about my birthday, you can view that on her blog

And because Mom never likes me to post without a picture…here’s one we took with the self-timer this morning (Dad is out of town on business).

Monster Trucks

I have been looking forward to this moment since Christmas when Didi first told me that we would be going to the monster truck show. I have talked about it, dreamt about it, and wished it would get here faster and it finally came. I was so happy. Mom wasn’t as happy as they wouldn’t let her take her big camera in. So what!?! I get sick of that thing being in my face all the time anyway. She did take her little camera and I didn’t even let her take that many pictures with it. But you can tell by this picture that I was so excited to be here.

And she even got a little video action of me. Not sure why I am making the faces I am making, but I guess I was just too excited to contain myself. Mom joked that I was going to be sore the next day because I stayed so tensed up the whole time. What can I say? I love monster trucks! So, if you are lucky enough to get an invite to my upcoming birthday party, know that there will be lots of monster trucks involved.
